KanBananza is a browser extension (Chrome, Edge and Firefox) that turns your new tab page into kanban boards. It is built to keep your information on your own computer.
What stays on your computer
Your boards, cards, settings, backups, images, activity history for insights and everything else you create are stored only in your browser, using the browser's extension storage. KanBananza has no account, no server and no analytics. We never see, collect, sell or share your boards or how you use them. The only way your boards leave your computer is the optional Google Drive sync described below, and only if you turn it on.
If you turn on the passcode lock, your boards, backups and card images are encrypted on your computer. Your passcode is never stored or sent anywhere.
When KanBananza uses the internet
Only for Full Bananza features you choose to use.
Your licence key, with Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider:
- Activating or deactivating Full Bananza: when you press Activate or Deactivate, KanBananza sends your licence key, and a label naming the computer type (for example "KanBananza on MacIntel"), to Lemon Squeezy to check the key. Your browser asks your permission first.
- Checking the key: KanBananza sends the licence key and this computer's activation ID to Lemon Squeezy to check the key is still valid: about once every 30 days for the yearly plan, and about once every 3 months for lifetime. This stops a shared key from working once it has been switched off.
Google Drive sync (optional, Chrome and Edge, off unless you turn it on):
- What's stored: an encrypted copy of your boards, cards, pictures and activity history, in a hidden KanBananza folder in your own Google Drive, so your other computers can sync with it.
- Encrypted first: it's encrypted on your computer with a sync passphrase you choose, before it leaves. Neither Google nor KanBananza can read it. Your passphrase is never stored or sent.
- Only its own folder: KanBananza can only see its hidden app folder, not your other Drive files, and it doesn't ask for your name or email address.
- Straight to your Drive: the data goes from your browser to Google Drive. KanBananza has no server and never receives any of it. Google sign-in gives KanBananza a short-lived access key, kept in memory only and cleared when the browser closes.
- Turning it off: Settings → Turn off sync. You can also choose to delete the copy in your Drive.
KanBananza's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Nothing else is sent: never your settings, and your boards only through sync, encrypted, to your own Drive.
When you buy Full Bananza, the purchase itself (your name, email address and payment details) is handled by Lemon Squeezy under its own privacy policy, not by KanBananza.
Permissions
- Storage: to save your boards and settings in your browser.
- Alarms and notifications: for focus timer and due-date reminders, daily backups and the backup reminder.
- Context menus and active tab: for "Add to KanBananza" when you right-click a page, and the "current tab" button in the popup. Pages are read only when you use these.
- Favicon: to show website icons for links on cards, from the browser's own cache (Chrome and Edge only).
- api.lemonsqueezy.com (asked for only when you activate Full Bananza): to check your licence key, and for the yearly plan to confirm the subscription about once a month.
- Identity and www.googleapis.com (asked for only when you turn on sync; Chrome and Edge): to sign in to Google and read and write KanBananza's hidden folder in your Drive.
Your choices
You can export all of your data at any time (Settings → Export / import), and removing the extension deletes everything it stored on your computer. If you use sync, you can turn it off and delete the copy in your Drive at any time (Settings → Turn off sync).
